Shakespeare’s theatrical career lasted from 1586 to 1611, a period of 25 years. Shakespeare began his career by moving to London and taking up a job with a dramatic company, Lord Chamberlain's Men. The company became very popular and loved by the royalty. When Queen Elizabeth died, the group changed their name to the King's Men. In his work with the company, Shakespeare discovered his love for play writing. Members of the company built their own theater, the Globe, and many of Shakespeare's most famous plays were performed there. With all the property purchases and investments, we can guess that he became a very wealthy man. Shakespeare was able to buy an expensive house for his family and retired there to write plays freely.
